Don Nguyen

At 8 years old, Don was already taking pictures with his dad’s 35mm Minolta camera. Fast forward a decade to right before the start of college, and you’d see him with his first purchase, a Canon Rebel T7i DSLR camera. His interest in photography eventually expanded into videography, as he saw the creative outlets that filmmaking had. Although not a film studies major, he would regularly frequent the film production lab to learn and borrow equipment like tripods, sliders, audio recorders, and LED light panels. He’d use these tools to make videos for clients, and take advantage of the money saved by reinvesting it into the business. After a few name changes and inspired by his cat, Soma, he’d finally land upon the name “Somatic Films”. Today, Don is a medical student who runs his company as a side business with hopes of being a cardiologist or surgeon that also creates medical documentaries.

Soma Nguyen

The inspiration behind the name “Somatic Films”, Soma is a domestic shorthair calico cat and a normally shy girl. However, if you earn her trust, you will can certainly see her true affection and personality! Abandoned in a box next to a McDonald’s dumpster, she was adopted by Don while he was a graduate student. Since then, Don and Soma have been best friends and close confidantes. Like many other cats, Soma’s hobbies include eating, looking outside windows, playing with feathers, and of course napping. Unsurprisingly, her favorite activity is sleeping next to Don while he studies. Needless to say, she is a great study buddy and a calming presence to have around.
